An Eagle’s Eye View: Seeing Life from a Higher Perspective

Watching the Super Bowl, I couldn’t help but notice the Eagles’ defensive coordinator sitting above the field in the coaching booth, studying the plays and adjusting strategies as the game unfolded below. While he could have been on the sidelines, he chose higher ground—a position that gave him a clearer perspective, a better view of the patterns forming on the field, and the ability to anticipate what was coming next.
Life is the same way. When we’re caught up in the middle of challenges, decisions, and emotions, it’s easy to react to what’s right in front of us instead of stepping back to see the bigger picture. But when we take a moment to shift our perspective—when we seek God’s view instead of our own limited one—everything starts to look different.
The Power of Perspective
An eagle doesn’t stay on the ground or get lost in the chaos below. It soars above the storm, seeing farther than any other bird. The higher it rises, the clearer the view.
How often do we stay too close to a situation, overwhelmed by frustration, fear, or uncertainty? We focus on the moment instead of trusting God’s bigger plan. But in Isaiah 40:31, we’re reminded:
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
God calls us to rise higher, to trust Him, and to see beyond what we think we understand.
Letting Go of a Limited View
When we’re struggling, it’s natural to focus on what’s right in front of us—the setback, the unanswered prayer, the challenge that won’t go away. But what if we could see things from God’s perspective? What if that delay is protection? What if that closed door is redirection? What if the struggle is shaping us in ways we can’t yet see?
Just like the coach in the booth or an eagle in flight, God invites us to step back, rise higher, and trust that He sees the whole field—even when we don’t.
Reflection
Where in your life do you need a higher perspective? What would it look like to trust God to see the bigger picture?
